Built by the community (1981)
The house began in 1981 to the plans of William Guinn, a former Los Angeles police officer. Neighbors lent their hands — a local friend crafted the doors by hand, the slab was mixed on site — and the property first ran off-grid on a generator and its own well.
Roland Willey's vision
Las Vegas attorney Roland Willey opened the region, laying out the roads of Charleston View — streets named alphabetically — and building the storied Cathedral Canyon retreat nearby.
Joan & Artie name it "Sunbaked"
Two desert pioneers, Joan and Artie, fell for the land and gave it its enduring name. They joined three adjoining parcels into the unified ten-acre homestead that stands today.
Stephen's restoration
Stephen, a physician in Las Vegas and Pahrump, acquired the property at auction and brought it into the modern era — radiant heat, wood floors, high-efficiency windows, solar, a second well, and the birth of Desert Bloom Eco Farms.
